How can I tell if my three year old has Chickenpox? He has lost his appetite and has a fever. Could this be Chickenpox?

Hello,

Yes it could be Chickenpox, as these are certainly the symptoms before the rash comes out. Has he been in contact with anyone who could have had chickenpox and passed it on? If he develops a rash, I would contact your MD for further advise.

Better consult the doctor. Loss of appetite and fever are two very common symptoms of almost all diseases, so we can't be too sure that it's chickenpox until the rashes come out. It could mean a lot of things.

Hi chicky25,

I hope you have already brought your kid to the pediatrician by now. smile

For additional information to the thread readers, another major symptom of chicken pox are red rashes, sometimes even vomiting.

I am also posting these for the benefit of the others.

Chickenpox is very, very, very uncomfortable. To comfort your child, do the following:

1. Give your child plenty of fluids - water and juice - to avoid dehydration.
2. Cut the fingernails short. Chickenpox is very itchy, cut them short to avoid scratching.
3. Give some meds, but also consult your doctor - ibuprofen, paracetamol, antihistamine - to ease the itchiness and headaches.

Yes, it is. Vitamin C could prevent the situation to worsen and speed up the recovery period.

Thanx mango for the reply you posted. My friend’s daughter has chicken pox and I will tell her to give more vitamin C to her daughter.
