CureYourBody.com is excited to announce the launch of
its new forums. The next several months will be critical to setting up the
forums the way you want them to be. So
if you feel we should add more categories or sub forums, please let us know.
We'll add sub forums on our own as well, if we feel a
large number of posts are being made on a specific topic. For example, "Colon Cleansing" was added as a sub forum to the Gastroenterology forum since there seems
to be a lot of posts for that specific subject.
I don't think that the regularity of your period has anything to do with how easy it is to get pregnant really, unless you are trying to get pregnant by trying to track your ovulation. In that case I would think it would be a bit more difficult. If a woman has a period every month, no matter when the period is, then she ovulates every month. It's really all just about timing.
Unless you are trying to get pregnant, I'd get on some form of birth control. There are several different options that can help regulate your period, but I think the pill is the most commonly used method to do so.
hard periods or irregular periods is not the indication of pregnancy it may be due to other causes like anemia(blood deficency )
in pregnancy or the one who is suffering pregnancy the periods will be totally stopped and it can be conformed by HCG test
this is not at all a problem now a days it is common problem that many are suffering it may due to deficiency off blood
i think you should prefer more iron content food
I am now 21 years old and I have incredibly irregular periods.
My last period was last February, now it is May. I am single.
Since then I have this irregular period.
Is this normal? Even though since I started, it is not monthly period?
Thanks for anything you have to say.
Has these delayed menstruation been happening over a longer time (your details suggest so, but it is also confusing when you say "since then...period." Does that mean it has happened only once?? The month of May hasn't ended still...)? Are you undergoing stress (other than this disorder), do you smoke? Are you doing regular exercises? Is you diet balanced? What has your doctor said? When did you have your last pelvic examination?
Any of these could give the answer. Or there could be hormonal imbalance. Only a proper medical checkup can give you the right answer.
Remember, anything that is not normal, is abnormal. The abnormality could be acute or chronic. But, taking proper care of yourself is vital. Irregular menstruation can still be normal, if all other things are normal. The body sometimes behaves erratically, just like any machine! But, get yourself examined soon.
Remember:
** Unhealthy lifestyle,
** Medical examination - (delaying your regular medical examination),
** Infection,
** Stress (could be relational, emotional, or physical stress/strain),
** Smoke,
** Economic (financial) stress,
** Drinks,
** Hormonal imbalance,
** Exercise - (not doing daily exercises),
** Abnormal growth/bleeding/sensation/condition in the region,
** Diet - (neglecting proper foods, or taking improper diet, includes insufficient water intake).
Mnemonic of the above list: "U MISSED HEAD", so you could be suffering!
Especially for any woman, these are important keynotes to keep in mind when she is undergoing any disorder.
Remember the above mnemonic, find the cause, and take immediate corrective measures.
Like bunty said that there are several factors or disorders, which might lead to irregular periods. So most probably, it should not eventually be responsible for getting pregnant. However, might lead to other serious outcomes, if it persists during pregnancy. Again, the timing of the period is also the factor for pregnancy.
I do have irregular periods too. I menstruate once every 2 months or worst once in 3 months. I consulted a doctor and she said that there is nothing to worry about since it is the normal cycle of my body. And she said that if I wanted to have a monthly period, she suggest to take a pill. I chose not to take a pill.
Ive been taking hormonal contraceptives for 9 months now and since then Ive had my periods regularly so I think you should consider it. My period always comes on the 25th day of my cycle when I used to skip a month in between periods. But ask your doctor also for possible causes.
I guess some females just are prone to having irregular periods, if they are that bad then go on the pill as opposed to waiting about wondering when your period will come - if you are having sex with someone this could also be bad as you might not know if you're pregnant and all that sort of jazz.
When i advised my friend to consult a gynecologyst to help her with irregular menstruation, she had regrets when she is already experiencing regular monthly periods because she said it's more difficult because she will deal with it regularly now, but as long as you are not planning to get pregnant, i don't think it's a cause of a panic. Take care.
Except for the occasional headache, take a hormonal pill -- it's safe. Even if you're not sexually active, it'll benefit you. You'll have your period regularly and only for a few days per period.
If you're sexually active, all the more that you should take the pill.
I will prefer to have a regular menstrual cycle but with your case, since you can't determine your fertile period or ovulation to be exact which increases the chance of getting pregnant or avoid unwanted pregnancy, you better protect yourself by choosing a reliable contraceptive.
All my friends who are regular get their periods for 3-5 days. But I have my period for 7-9 days. The flow is still quite heavy till the 6th day. Is this normal? Or is this reason for a trip to the OB.
I experience excessive bleeding too. Like you it takes more than a week. The term my gyne use is mennorghia. I take hemostan anti-bleeding capsule and iron supplements. I did not consult a specialist because i know it's expensive but it can also be due to fibroids in the womb or benign tumors in the uterus during childbearing years. I hope it's just hormonal imbalance.
This is a problem since I was only 13 - when I had my first period. In one year, I have about 2 to 4 cycles, which I'm never really sure, because they are very, very, very infrequent. It can be normal at times, having my period after about 28 days for 7 days in that cycle. The next period can be about 10 months or so for about 3 days, or maybe 16 days.
I haven't seen any doctor yet. I've been reading a lot about this problem, I read PCOS (polycistic ovarian syndrome), irregularity, anovulation, etc - but the symptoms aren't exactly the same as what I am experiencing.
My concern is that I might be infertile. My husband and I are planning to have kids within the next few years.
We have the same case. Without taking the pill, it takes about six months before I get my next period. I suggest that you go visit a doctor the soonest.
I am not sure about your infertility problems. Trust me, a doctor will be a big help.
Having irregular periods or no periods could be signs that you aren't ovulating. You also might need to consider whether you have diabetes, or hormonal problems (thyroid or pituitary). If you do think you have PCOS and you want to get pregnant, you should consult your doctor for fertility drugs or IVF options.
Hi,
Depends on how old you are as well as on the other symptoms you might have. Unless you are clear about it, you might not receive a suitable response.
if you really want to conceive in the future, you should have your menstruation cycle regulated. i also had that problem before (irregular cycle) because of low progestorone level and probably pcos (although i haven't had it checked yet). you can get services from a free clinic, if you aren't covered by insurance. hope this helps.
it took me five years before i saw a doctor. i have gone through an ultrasound and other tests. long story short, after 7 weeks, i got pregant! i still have to see my doctor very often because i have high blood pressure.

Mine takes about 5-7 days (they vary) but the flow is lighter by the 4th day. Yes, that can be a reason to go the GYNE. If not for that, your reproductive health in general.
A woman that has irregular period would be easily or hard to be pregnant?
Thank you!
Doctors told my mom it would be impossible for her to have children and she had periods like yours. Yes I said my mom. 4 kids later she got her tubes tied. So I say, always use protection if you don't want to get pregnant and if you do want a pregnancy, consult your doctors. I have the exact opposite problem as you and my doc reminded me everyone is different and having a heavy period does not mean I am extra fertile. So in other words, don't use your condition as birth control.
You have to take care of the irregular period before you are able to get pregnant.
Irregular period is an indication of estrogen dominant and adrenal problems. It will take some adjustment to lifestyle to be able to correct this problem. Please read what I found in the following links.
