CureYourBody.com is excited to announce the launch of
its new forums. The next several months will be critical to setting up the
forums the way you want them to be. So
if you feel we should add more categories or sub forums, please let us know.
We'll add sub forums on our own as well, if we feel a
large number of posts are being made on a specific topic. For example, "Colon Cleansing" was added as a sub forum to the Gastroenterology forum since there seems
to be a lot of posts for that specific subject.
For me, reading is the best way to escape reality. Curling up with a good book helps to remove me from the worries of every day life, thus reducing my stress and anxiety levels. Not to mention, reading makes you smart!
Thanks for all the reply. I love to read to my child, i hope my effort will contribute to his language and active learning while promoting brain development, as well.
My mother always read to me, even when I was too young to remember. She also took me to the library every week, religiously, to pick out books to read at home. To this day I attribute my love of reading and high intelligence level to her dedication from such a young age.
My husband will tell you that reading literally (no pun intended) saves his life on a daily basis - if I don't get time alone to read, I get homicidal!
: )
For me, there really is nothing more relaxing and enjoyable than sitting down with a good book. I think it could definately be attributed with lowering stress and anxiety levels, although I don't know if this has ever actually been studied or proven.
Research shows that fond of reading results to children who:
- Read better, write better and concentrate better.
- Have an easier time processing new information.
- Have a better chance for a successful, fulfilling adult life.
- Have many interests and do well in a wide variety of subjects.
- Develop an ability to understand how other people think and feel.
- Acquire the ability to sift information and to understand how unrelated facts can fit into a whole.
- Tend to be more flexible in their thinking and more open to new ideas.
- Weather personal problems better without their schoolwork being affected.
Yes, I would say that readng is on the top of my favorite things to do. I especially like magical fantasy or maybe murder mysteries or true crime. It is fun to escape reality and enter a different world even for a little while. My mothr was a reader and most of my kids mostly my 11 yr old daughter.
Is there a study that explains why most guys don't like to read books without pictures? No offense to the guys here who love to read, but I can count on one finger my guy friends who actually read books. And the reason that the non-readers give me is that novels don't have pictures. Or maybe I just have stupid guy friends
Have no idea Chrissy, but my husband will read a novel without pictures, but it takes him a heck of a lot longer to read a book than me - interesting theory to research!
I'm not sure if there are biological or neurological factors to this, but it sure would be interesting to find out. Personally, I believe that, at the risk of sounding sexist, reading takes patience, and men are generally more impatient than women. They prefer to do something physical rather than sit for two hours and go through a portion of a book. Just my two cents worth
The health benefits will be information to your brain and relaxation. Most people read newspaper, books etc to relax themselves and ease the tension on their body. For me i like to watch TV rather than reading books, but usually read newspaper preferebly the sports section.
Well it's like they say If we don't use it we lose it.

I think that's what were talking about mental health right? it's not to physical after all
