Commonly called zoonoses, these are infections that can be passed from animals to humans.

You can get it when you are bitten, scratched or in some cases even when you come in contact with animal matter like hair, feather, fur, saliva, or waste. You can get Lyme disease from the ticks carried by animals. Rabies, toxocariasis and ringworms are the common diseases though there are others too.

The most infectious disease that you can get from an animal is rabies. When you are bitten by an animal with rabies, it could be fatal and lead to death.

There is another infection pass from animal to human which is conjunctivitis. This infection is extremely strong and can be transferred from human to human. It is also known as pink eye.

Psittacosis pneumonia is communicable from birds to humans and vice versa. In the past it could be fatal, but now is treatable with broad-spectrum antibiotics such as doxycycline. It can be transmitted from any type of parrot, most commonly those purchased in pet stores. Without veterinary treatment the bird will die.

There is a similarity. Bird flu is a kind of illness to birds that targets the pulmonary system of the animal. Thus, pneumonia is the result of the death of most birds infected with this disease.

Another contagious disease that we can get from animals is rabies. My vet told me that cats also have rabies but not as potent compared to dogs.

If it’s not treated immediately, it could be fatal. Swine flu has a different kind of strain than ecoli virus.

All transmitted disease from animal to man if left untreated would be fatal. We must learn and study the sickness we could get if you want to have a pet animal that might contain contagious diseases.
