I dunno know what to call it but ...I have been deathly afraid of cats since I was little.

People ask me if something bad or traumatic happened that made me like this but there really isn't anything. I'm just scared of cats from as far back as I can remember. I'd rather be run over by a truck than let a cat come near me.

What do I do with this unhealthy fear? I'm worried because I have kids and one of them seems to really like them. I wouldn't know how to deal with myself when he gets to requesting for a cat.....Help

You can overcome it with professional help. Unless you get through life withour much contact with cats.

I agree with the pp, you may benefit from professional help to overcome your phobia, but you do want to have to have the fear eliminated for it to be effective.

Hey, any pet is always nice to have except... kittens! (I am not afraid of cats, I am afraid of kittens). When I was a kid, my aunt's cat gave birth and all the kittens were running around the house - I can't walk on the floor then because I was standing on the sofa the whole time!

The very definition of phobia is "an unreasonable fear" of something - you don't have to have a reason for it, it just scares the bejeezus out of you. For me, it's spiders. I think it can't be too strange to be scared of cats; they're unpredictable, they have sharp claws, and they can jump on your counter while you're eating. Good enough for me!

I have a friend who is very afraid of baby cats. He told me that they are so gross to look and he gets so annoying whenever there are cats all over the place.
