ACV lowers blood sugar levels. And reduces one's appetite. Good for weight watchers. ACV is also said to help lower cholesterol and slow down cancer cell growth.

Is there anything else besides this? What uses of acv do you know?

Its best knows as appetite suppressant. Dilute one tablespoon in a glass of water. This one glass for the whole day.

Some experts believe that it does not promote weight loss. Why does it suppress appetite? Because 2 tbsps of sour vinegar before meals will really keep you from enjoying your meal. It is quite unappealing.

But what the hey! If that works, then why not?! My friend lost a good 25 pounds when he took ACV.

When I was in the Naval Medical Corps during the Vietnam thing . . . I first read a book by Dr. Jarvis called Vermont Folk Medicine in which he expounds on the virtues of apple cider vinegar. The people of Vermont developed much of their natural senses in the its use by watching the animals on the farm and in the wild. There's a lot of good from acv.

However, do not follow his writings on Lugol's solution. It won't cause death, but the use of Lugol's as an inorganic substance has complicated proper treatment for people. I experimented with Lugol's for awhile in the 70's, but found that it wasn't as "natural" as people are lead to believe. There are better ways.

ACV has its place, but don't be mislead into thinking that it's a panacea.

Availability of the fruit to make it? Atleast, isn't that the way in this country? Other countries used what was more available to them. England has malt vinegar instead.

Ease of making vinegar from apples kind of guarantees a quality-control.

Just my opinion.

I don't think that is the reason, because we have every kind of vinegar available to us here in the USA. Apple Cider vengar must be different somehow?

Photoqueen:

I guess I was thinking back when this country was in its infancy. People learned to preserve foods with either salt or vinegar. The easiest way to make vinegar was to use the most available resource.

Just my opinion.

Well in Italy the grape vinegar is more widely sold. So yes, it seems an issue of which resource is more widely available, and what the people prefer.

The Apple Cider Vinegar MUST have what's called "Mothering" in it.
Mothering show as making the vinegar look cloudy at the bottom of the bottle.
Available at a good Health Food Store. Heinz won't do; Braggs is a good one.
Also said to help with proper PH Balance.

I read that book about the Vermont people; but remember, those folks were
farmers and herdsmen and worked Hard all day doing farm work; they didn't sit
on their tushes in front of computers.
Jarvis's book Folk Medicine was/is a great book by the way, worth anyone's reading,
and can be found on the Internet, at Used sections of sites like Amazon.com.

I use ACV in making sweet and sour cucumbers, cole slaw, salad dressings with
olive oil, etc. I haven't been able to just drink it down in a glass of water.
Wish I could but just tooooo sour for me.lol

I agree with you about the brand of acv. For 20 years I would drink heinz vinegar. Then sometime in the 90's I discovered the bragg's. I couldn't believe the difference. Bragg's tastes like wholesome food.

Apple cider vinegar has been long use and has more health benefits rather than dringking meds. Here ar some benfits of ACV. It helps eliminate harmful acid crystals that build up in joints, so it reduces arthritic symptoms (stiff joints). It is also helpful for many skin conditions like cne, warts, and dandruff. ACV aides the stomach by improving the pH to its optimal level, thus reducing reflux.
