I know this will sound stupid but it has got me thinking...during my periods I would take aspirin (pains and all that jazz), should I stop or take a different sort instead? I read that aspirin thins the blood and now I'm worried taking aspirin will make my blood flow heavier and I really don't want that!!

Thanks :S

Hmm that could explain why I bruise easily when I take aspirin. Thinning of the blood makes one bruise too easily.

Aspirin has antiplatelet properties, meaning it makes your blood more prone to bleeding. I think you should avoid aspirin during menses because this might result to heavy bleeding. I usually take Mefenamic acid for my dysmenorrhea. You can also try Ibuprofen. smile

Based on the research I gathered from the internet, aspirin prolongs the menstrual periods of women because it inhibits clotting on women's cycle. But this is not a healthy thing to do because aspirin is also considered blood thinner.

Aspirin inhibits platelet aggregation. (makes them less sticky, less likely to clot) Per my rheum MD, he says that the blood that lines the uterus is simply shedding, it accumulated in the event that a follicle is implanted, it is not active bleeding therefore should not lengthen your periods nor make them heavier. That being said, I just started Asa 81mg per day and my period this month is HEAVY and much brighter than usual. I will be seeing a hemeatologist soon and will let ya know his take on things. hello
