I heard it from a friend that iron supplements are the best remedy for women with chronic coughs. Any ideas?

The buzz may have been from a recent research that found out that iron supplementation improved cases of chronic coughing among women with iron deficiencies. Apparently according to experts iron regulates the production of inflammatory proteins and the deficiency results to upper airway inflammation. Unexplained coughing may also be caused by other deficiencies in minerals and vitamins like B12, so they claim.

I think iron supplement is for those who are experiencing anemia but with chronic cough you need to strengthen your immune system, so zinc supplement and vitamin C is the right chice.

Just posted in one of the forums about my persistent cough. Have had it for weeks.
It's great to come across this. Maybe I do lack iron. I take vitamin c and zinc, though.

I'll read up on this.

For recurring cough, you might be allergic to something. If your cough is more than 2 weeks running, maybe you might have allergies or it is a symptom of tuberculosis.

Thrombocytopenia is a disorder in which the blood does not have enough platelets, also called low platelets. People with low platelets are at risk for abnormal bleeding, such as nose bleeds. I would consult a physician.

The Mantoux PPD tuberculin skin test is stated to be the most reliable. The test is usually given on the inside of the forearm about halfway between the wrist and the elbow, where a small bubble will form as the tuberculin is injected. The skin test takes just a minute to administer.

After 48-72 hours, the test site should be examined by a trained person for evidence of swelling. People who have been exposed to tuberculosis will develop an immune response, causing a slight swelling at the injection site. If there is a lump or swelling, the health care provider will use a ruler to measure the size of the reaction. Some public health physicians recommend using a 72-hour waiting period as a general practice on the grounds that a 48-hour waiting period yields a higher percentage of false negative test results.
