NO!!

Major warning signs dude, who told you this? just another reason why people should use forums like this where the advice is from professionals!

Fruit takes longer to break down, a lot longer than meat and the likes..say you were eating chicken for your meal, and then ate fruit...the fruit would be lodged behind the chicken, so it would be stuck in your body for ages..perhaps fermenting...and could cause your digestive system big problems..not so good for the bowel, so avoid! I noticed a post on here a while ago about eating fruit on an empty stomach, it is FINE to do that.

Great advice Richard.

Strangely enough I have heard a lot of people talking about fruit and saying it is best to eat it after a meal, I mean what?? it's good to see you are querying what you've heard OP, too many people take on invalidated advice from various forums.

If you mean eat fruit only as dessert, then let me add something. Soups, salads and main dish have fruits in it, right? So what you've read really doesn't make sense.

I hope this clarifies.

I agree. Fruits should be eaten on an empty stomach due to the fermentation risk. This will also help reduce the bloating feeling one gets when he eats fruits as a dessert. I used to eat fruits for dessert but when I saw a powerpoint presentation about how and when to eat fruits, I stuck to other chocolates instead. bouncy smile Not sure if that's healthy though.

Hello, what i know is that in italian 'cuisine' fruits and sweets are served after the meals. But I also heard that from a nutritious point of view it's better to eat them before the meals.

Yes, in Islamic tradition, during the holy month of Ramadan, those who undertake the fast; break their fast with fruits especially - Dates. Similarly in Hindu tradition also, fruits are consumed just before breaking the fast.

However, it is also customary in several cultural traditions to offer fruits after the meals. In fact, fruits are offered as a dessert. There is no harm in consuming a fruit after a meal. May be each one has his own point of view.

Usually, I eat fruits after meals, but a friend said that she read somewhere that fruits should be eaten before meals, because otherwise the benefits of fiber will be lost. Any truth to this?

Theoretically, its better to eat fruit before your meal or a couple of hours after meals. But I eat my fruit instead of a dessert, so I don't know which is better.

I agree, fruits as desserts are better than chocolates or ice cream. So maybe we should eat fruits before and after meals? Haha

Having fruits before and after (and sometimes it is my meal) isn't a bad idea. Just make sure you don't take too much fruits that are high in acid, otherwise your tummy will ache

I''m not sure if they lose their fibre, but I did read that if you eat an apple before your meal you will eats less as it makes you feel fuller, so it can aid with weight loss.

I prefer to eat fruits after you eat your meal. This is a healthy dessert rather than cakes, blueberry cheese cake, ice cream etc. Fruits are not appetizers and sometimes can cause ulcer if you have an empty stomach.

Fruits are a healthy dessert rather than cakes, pies etc. It’s best to eat fruit every day not just before or after we eat our meal but can be a substitute for junk food.

Dr. Herbert Shelton, the renowned American health educator, conducted a research on this topic and the research-report revealed that fruit before meal is always better than after. It also showed that fruits become alkaline in our body; instead being acidic. Fruits before meal help detoxifying body leaving it absolutely hail and healthy.

Really? I always receive forwarded email from my friends but I haven’t encountered this one. In my opinion, it’s better to eat fruits before every meal to avoid acidity.

This is what I've gathered from all the chitchats here. You eat fruits before meals because:

1. Islamic tradition - We can't argue here. It's tradition that deserves to be respected. thumbs up

2. Avoid acidity - Isn't it that fruits are acidic? lol idiot

3. Fruits become alkaline in our body - Contradicting #2, but answer is more credible (there's a source). thumbs up

4. It's filling, so it helps in weight loss. - Makes sense! thumbs up

5. In Italian cuisine, the sweets are served before the main dish - Really? I've never been to Italia, so I didn't know that dessert comes before the main dish. I have yet to confirm this before I believe the answer. thumbs down

Substituting fruits from junk foods is a great way to live a healthy lifestyle. So eating fruits before a meal is great and it will give you the proper fiber to remove toxins from the food you eat.
