Hi,

Two stents were placed in me when I had a heart attack. I heard that clot forms on blood elluted stents.

I'm on Plavix and I don't know if I need to take Aspirin to prevent blood formation.

How long should I take both drugs?

Plavix-therapy is very vital in preventing stent thrombosis. A study published in The Lancet, a prestigious medical journal, stated four cases in which drug-eluting stent patients experienced a heart attack from stent thrombosis about a year after implantation, and shortly after stopping antiplatelet therapy.

Some studies revealed that an increased blood clot problems may continue in some stent patients much longer that's why there is a need for taking Plavix for a year or sometimes for life.

Aspirin can be given with Plavix, but there is a risk of bleeding. Aspirin alone can be used in some cases.

There is always a need to inform your physician before stopping any medication prescribed to you.
