First off let me say that I'm not "aging" yet but I have noticed a change in my metabolism since turning 30. I had 3 precious children in my 20's and never gained a pound but once I hit 30, I started noticed the changes in my body. I am still well within what is considered the healthy weight range for my height but I am curious if there are certain foods or supplements to help boost your metabolism. Or is it just a case of eating several small meals a day to keep it on it's toes? Any input or advice would be appreciated.

Hi, I think woman/man really gains weight as time passes by, I guess healthy living would be the best solution for that, watch your food intake, eat less and move more. grin

Metabolism reduces with age. Age can affect the rate of burning the calories. In older age, the rate is slower than in the younger age. So, there is a weight gain even if you the same amount of calories. Hormones, nervous system, and muscles (its activity is a must to burn the calories) all play their part in the metabolic action. With age, these systems become sluggish in their activity. So you must do some more (or less, according the physical ability) activities that are ideal for the age group you are in.

I agree with Ernie that Metabolism slows down gradually with age. But i will applaud you dcgirl that you noticed it early...I have known a lot of people, who came to know about it only after gaining 10-15 extra pounds in their body.

I still cannot predict the slowness in metabolic rate of my body, even though i know I have gained some extra pounds in the past few years. How did you conclude that it was slowing down, TCgirl and did you find any remedy for fighting it?

I am on my way to being 31 years old this August. I admit I am getting fat because I am eating too much and I do not do exercises. Metabolism slows as we age and as we age, our body is going slow also. If you don't want to gain weight, do some activities to move your body a lot but not rigid exercises.
