I sing and I am currently training for a career in opera. That, and a good body are what I aspire to have. Exercise helps the voice and the body too but there are those that seem to adversely affect my vocals like weight lifting. I tried it once but I felt tension in my shoulder and neck muscles. Definitely not good for my voice! Much as I wanted to have the body, I think weight lifting is not for me. How about a lot of cardio instead? Or, do I really need the work out for the body? Please tell me.

I too sing (soprano) and into weight lifting! Well I can only say the nicest things my routine has done to my voice and my body. I’ve been into it for about 8 months now although it’s a kind of an on and off thing. However, I know for one who does weight lifting and singing for years. My brother is a baritone and has been at it for 10 years now! His voice and technique remain superb so far.

Some of the topics I am seeing posted in the forums these days are truly unique. Never in a million years would I have guessed to see questions about body building and voice alteration.

Just thought I would post, as this one really stood out. happy rock

I've recently discovered mini trampoline exercise and frankly, I am blown away at how effective it is! Since rebounding increases circulation and oxygen intake I’d recommend it best for yvez. You will love it bouncing while doing the high notes. The routine is as simple as do-re-mi!

I don't see any adverse impact of weight lifting exercises on taking care of your voice. On the contrary it will help you build up your stamina. It will also give you more control over your breathing. These are essential musts in the career you are pursuing.

How about some light weights? You don't have to be training like a pro, or even test out some of the weights machines at the gym, just don't push yourself!

Good voice and healthy body combination is not something to think about ,go for it! I vote for trampoline and voice exercise, it's like hitting two birds with one stone, a very clever idea! bouncy smile

In producing a healthy body you dont need weight to burn and build muscles. There are other ways to do it like playing sports, jogging, dancing and as long you eat the right food and be active in your lifestyle.

Michael_555 is correct do incline yourself into sports. You can also do jogging or other cardiovascular exercises.
