For the second time in the last three weeks my feet have swollen up. The skin is tight and the sides of my feet are tender. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Is it serious, should I be going to the doctors?

The last time this happened I didn't go the doctors and the swelling went down by itself. I'm not on any medication and I haven't changed my diet or lifestyle in any way...

No, nobody on the internet knows what is causing this. You'll need to see your doctor. Heart problems can cause those symptoms so don't delay.

Nobody on the internet will really know what is causing your problems, go see your doctor. I don't mean to scare you, but heart problem can cause those problems so don't delay, but odds are it won't be anything SUPER serious. Hope you find out the problem!

^ I agree. do NOT leave it as it is, cause it could be serious - better to be safe than sorry right?

Are you consuming high sodium foods? Are just plain out a lot of salt? This can make both your hands feet or body swell up.

High sodium along with a lot of water and soda's or alcohol can have this effect on parts of the body.

This may or may not be something serious, but it is something that should be considered serious until your doctor tells you differently. You may be retaining fluid. Are you sitting down more than usual? It could be that you're not getting enough circulation. Could be lots of things. Go see your m.d. angel

No my diet hasn't changed, I wouldn't say I am consuming more food with a higher level of salt. Well I have been sitting down a lot, but I've also been exercising too. I've a doctors appointment booked now, just to be safe.

Thanks guys. anymore help is really appreciated, just to keep my mind at ease until I go to the drs.

Sounds like water retention that's caused by an imbalance of minerals in the body! How much salt do you take in your diet?

Wheat is a common cause of water retention, so try avoiding it if you are eating a lot of it. Also avoid tea, coffee and alcohol are they're diuretics so they exacerbate water retention. Try some herbal tea smile

There are 2 main things that could actually stop water retention. Ironically though, the first is drinking more water it is common when we are dehydrated or low on water. The body tends to conserve water, and will retain a bit to keep us hydrated. The usual 8-10 glasses of water a day helps a lot.

First of all, stop eating so much sodium rich foods or salt altogether. This, along with water , can cause fluid retention.

This should be enough to get rid of your puffy ankles.

I experience the same,my ankles swell easily. I think the tips shared here will be helpful but my immediate relief for this condition is resting my feet in a cooler place but i agree that summer means going out and having fun without having to worry about pain or discomfort. At least next time,we can prepare ahead and choose activities that are ankle friendly, right? thumbs up
