Well,
My doctors this week told me they want to put me on blood thinners. I’m scared of what the side effects are – I’ve heard so many complications of people on it and I’m scared! What should I do!!!?!?

I’m not an expert at my age on blood thinners and stuff – but with all meds there can be side effects. If you don’t think your doctor is correct in his assessment seek a second opinion. Also ask your doctor questions!

Thanks for the nice words there. I think I will talk to another doctor about this.

Janice sweetie I understand you're anxious about this but you need to consider what the alternative is. I'm on Warfarin, one of the most popular (amongst medical practitioners anyway! ) blood thinners. The worst thing I experience is that I have to wear a tag around my neck to identify that I take this medication so that if I'm ever in an accident paramedics can see that I have a potential bleeding problem. Other than that, in my situation, my alternative is not to take the pills, my recurring deep vein thrombosis will most likely return, and I could end up dead. With two young children, that's not an option for me.
As GeekZ said, ask questions, get info, get second opinion, but consider what the alternative to taking them is, and then decide which is the more scary position to be in. For me, being a ticking time bomb was worse than having to take the pills and wear the tag.

Janice,
I agree. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and get a second opinion. We are guardians of our own health, and we must take care of it!

I am on blood thinners myself, and I really haven’t had much of a problem with it. Just be sure to communicate any problems you do have with your doctor.

I agree. The best solution would be to seek for further help if you are not so sure. Nobody's gonna take care of yourself more but you. God bless you sweetie.

Do ask questions from your doctor, but never be completely convinced with them. I believe every treatment come with complications and most physicians overlook smaller ones, which might have a significant impact in your life.
If possible, try to find every information that you can gather from every source available around you.

Jack is correct Janice. Although questioning might make the person at the other end uncomfortable, yet it will prevent a chance of future loss of any sort from your system. You will leave no scope for repenting in the future.

Leave it all on the professional bunch, Janice! This is what they are paid for. You should be assured that you will be knowing everything from them (pros and cons) before the operation will be implemented on you.

A blood thinner, also called an anti-coagulant, is used to stop platelets, or heavy cells, present in blood plasma from forming clots. They are mostly used in those who are at risk for heart attack or stroke. The most common blood thinner, and most often used is aspirin. The second most common blood thinner is warfarin. A more recently developed blood thinner is Plavix which has fewer side effects. But, all these medicines are to be taken under proper medical supervision.

Speak to your doctor, he/she will have a very good reason for putting you on the medication and if you have any worries then get a second professional opinion.

If we have blood clots in our body your body is prone to diseases. There are 2 blood clotting in our body deep venous thrombosis (clots in the veins of the legs) and atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat). People who has deep venous thrombosis can have pieces of clot breaks off and might lead to the lungs and may cause death.

When you are under medication taking blood thinners, you cannot drink alcohol products. Alcohol is another form of blood thinner and may cause bleeding in your body and heart problems.
