Dr Houser,

You obviously know the program I am on and I am obviously not looking for alteration, but would like your insights into this "phenomena". I tend to see this in Life Extension circles and people recommending it for 1 day every week or so. Every time I think about it I get hungry and just want to eat - so off I go now to get a meal.

Right there with ya SUPERDUPER.....i get hungy everytime too.....i cant imagine NOT eating....as this would slow metabolism down as well as the digestive system as your body would want to hold onto all the nutrients it can get no?

I just finished eating so I can reply now. The arguments I hear are that caloric restriction slows aging and Intermittent Fasting helps the body "repair" itself and purge out impurities, etc. I actually found some discussion where they were talking bout AMPK(inase) and how most of the bodybuilding diets and supplements such as Forskolin, which are intended to stir cAMP, antagonise AMPK. This discussion went on to describe how digestion is one of those processes that you want to slow down, periodically, since it has something to do with AMPK/cAMP. But to me, when I see most of these IF types they just don't look healthy. Skinny, yes, but when their face looks like skin draped over a skeleton, eyes sunk in, etc, just seems off.

I will just add that I have had the best body composition results since I started doing one of Dr Houser's plans, and that means eating 6 meals/day.
