Caroline, I read the article and needless to say it killed my respect (if any) for FDA. I guess people now are more knowledged and articles like this should enlighten them to go beyond FDAs recommendations and as a matter of fact I have a doubt if people are still walking with FDA recommendations. If Stevia is a healthier sweet substitute, how can it be sweet news to FDA .....well I guess people reading this understood what I meant.

Here's an idea...let's put sugar (cane) in our CARS like they do in Brazil, and put Stevia in our BODIES! What a concept! A lot of people will be happier at the pump and healthier to boot!

DD, I agree with you 100%. Unfortunately, there's too much money (and politics) involved with oil here in the USA, so I doubt we'll be seeing much of a fuel reform any time soon, even though smaller, less technological countries are already doing it.

I have just joined and have been using the liquid Stevia for over a year now. Just recently, I thought about instead of a soda, why not put Stevia in a bottle of water. I use about 10 - 12 drops per bottle and shake. I actually make several ahead of time and stick back in the fridge. WOW! I feel like I have made a brilliant discovery. I have been doing this for several months now and have not had a soda in about a month. Can you imagine how easy it would be to loose weight and also give your body less sugar?

That’s a good idea DD but as Carolina says it would not pass as an alternative fuel in the US.

The Stevia I use I just noticed has citric acid, potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate. I was reading an article on the internet that raised concerns about 2 of these ingredients when they are together.

"Common preservative sodium benzoate, widely used in soft drinks and other foods, is again at the centre of health concerns after research emerged linking it to cell damage.

News of the research, conducted by professor Peter Piper at the University of Sheffield, prompted prominent UK politician Norman Baker to call for an immediate inquiry into the safety of sodium benzoate in foods. "

"Last year, an investigation" "revealed soft drinks industry leaders had known the preservative may break down to form benzene, a potentially cancerous chemical, in drinks also containing ascorbic acid (vitamin C) or citric acid"

Does anyone have more information on this?

That’s a good insight you got there. Do all sodas have this type of chemical weather it’s diet or not?
