A form of health care that uses diet, herbs, and other natural methods and substances to cure illness without the use of drugs. Naturopathic physicians aid healing processes by using a variety of natural methods based on the patient’s individual needs. Allowing the body to heal itself.

Naturopathic doctors follow 3 guidelines in healing their patients. They are using the least invasive or harmful method of curing, avoid the harmful suppression of symptoms and acknowledge, respect and the individual's self-healing process.

Naturopathic medicine can be applied in all health care situations, but the strongest success of this treatment is of chronic and degenerative disease.

Naturopathy is being mistaken as holistic healing. Holistic healing is a type of therapy that mixes the physical, psychological and spiritual process on healing while naturopathy is a science based o the medicine which incorporates the philosophy within.

One type of supplement for naturopathy is essential fatty acid. This fatty acid is commonly called as omega3 and omega6 fatty acids. It can be found mostly on fishes.

Hello James,

You have asked about the most traditional method of healing that even the modern medical science is showing interest in.

“Nature cures, not the physicians”; this is the main concept of naturopathy. This is basically a healing science that enhances body’s innate power by means of five eternal and basic elements of nature: air, water, earth, fire and ether.

How do we treat illnesses using naturopathy?

Well, if you are asking about the naturopathy methods, for treating any particular illness, you need to consult a naturopathy expert. Nevertheless, for overall health and fitness, you can adopt some basic naturopathy measures that may include consuming healthy vitamin & mineral enriched diet; physical exercises, yoga and pranayam (controlled breathing process), and detox diet (under professional supervision, only).

Naturopathy is synonymous to homeopathy, right? Isn't it quack medicine?

That’s what my intuition also tells me. I think homeopathy, naturopathy and even iridology seems to be a quack medicine practices.

On second thought, it may not be entirely classified as quack medicine but complementary medicine. Any thoughts?

This could be classified as alternative healing. Naturopathy is not a quack practice of medicine and has cured many ailments in the past.
