What are the signs that your kid has ADHD? How will you differentiate them from typical kids who are also very playful and have short attention span?

There are 3 major symptoms of ADHD these are attention deficit, poor impulse control and hyperactivity. Basic sign are difficulty in concentrating, trouble sitting still and staying in one place and do not consider the consequences of actions.

It can be treated with prescribed medicine like amphetamine. Doctors usually give a small amount of this drug to prevent the person from being dependent and addicted on the medicine. Amphetamine is a stimulant to decrease the energy and make them focus on only one task.

Can we treat ADHD by getting a occupational therapy rather than taking drugs?

I have seen children having cases of ADHD. An occupational therapist gives them activities to work to ad sometimes if the ADHD case is too high they prescribed drugs to lessen the case.

Please please please be careful. I know there are some doctors who will give the prescriptions just on a parents say so. Please be sure that your child is tested extensively before you put him/her on drugs. I have a soon to be 10 year old grandson who has been on three different meds over the past 4 or 5 years with very little testing. It is so sad to see. Like there is no life in his eyes, and no emotion. I really believe that in his case, it's a matter of not having to deal with behavior problems. (Broken home) Easier to put him on drugs, park him in front of a tv or a video and not be bothered. Just venting. But please make sure that the appropriate tests, and I don't mean five minutes worth of talking to the child by the doctor, are done for the sake of the child. I absolutely believe that diet plays a much bigger role in it than most people want to admit also. I think the majority of doctors don't pay enough attention to nutrition, because they aren't taught alot of it in med school. This I was told from a doctor.

I have a friend and her son is undergoing this therapy. His doctors already have tested him and found out that he had ADHD. He was given meds and went to undergo occupational therapy.

I think they were given prescription meds. These meds help their kid from being over active.

I posted occupational therapy for patients having ADHD. This was prescribed to her son by a specialist. There were no certain drugs that were given to her child.

I have watched a series on Discovery Channel about ADHD. Children and Adults take theraphy to lessen their hyper activeness. I saw there that there are no drugs prescribed but they were told to avoid drinking any liquid with caffein and more sugar.

Robin Williams suffered from adult ADHD. He went to therapy sessions and avoided drinking coffee during his treatment.

It depends on the severity of the patient’s condition. Sometimes doctors prescribe a non addictive downer to calm and relax the children.
