I don't claim that working out is the sole solution to eliminating depression. Of course you have to look at what's causing your depression.

It's just that I used to be really depressed always. But when I started working out, I've been calmer and somewhat happier lately. The issues that bother me still bother me but when they get in my head I don't mope all day or cry so much anymore. I just find myself telling me that whatever hurts truly is painful but there is no reason for me to keep experiencing that pain. I bounce back more easily now. And I think exercise has something to do with it.

I also believe that workout relieves stress and prevents depression. My best friend started working out after her husband died of an accident. It helped her pick herself up and recovered faster. She still gets sad, it's been two years. But her daily routine has made her bounce back quickly.

Yes, it can help. Working out and involvement in sports are actually the ways to remove depression. This is a therapy for them to forget the past and moving on to their new life.
