Fever blisters are usually caused by the herpes simplex virus, and usually form around the lips, cheeks, chin, and nostrils. There are really no known treatments for cold sores, but you can speed up the healing process or ease the pain. If your cold sore is caused by herpes simplex, you must take an antiviral agent to treat the underlying cause. Also, treat the fever with acetaminophen. For pain, you can make use of over the counter cold sore creams or painkillers. An ice pack can be used for temporary relief, too.

Make sure you have a cold sore. A cold sore is the same as a fever blister, but it is not the same as a canker sore. Canker sores are mouth ulcers that occur inside the mouth. While cold sores may on occasion develop inside the mouth, they are usually smaller than canker sores, and they start as blisters. Canker sores are not contagious, and they are not caused by a virus, so treatment differs from that for cold sores. Check with your doctor, who can determine which problem you have either by looking at it or performing a test.

You can rub aloe gel on a blister or cold sore. this will heal it fast and keep it from worsening. try grape seed extract, too. or combine both.

Cold sores may last from 10-14 days. If the sores last longer than two weeks or occur frequently, it is advisable to see your doctor. Apply ice for five to ten minutes each hour at the start of the cold sores. This will prevent their further development. You must avoid Foods high in arginine such as those containing chocolate, peanuts and other nuts, grains, peas, seeds, oatmeal and whole-wheat products should be reduced from the diet.

Here are some medications or treatments for fever blister that I have research thru a health magazine.
Reduce intake of coffee.
Taking B complex supplements with B12 vitamin and folic acid is helpful.
Make the following formula and store it in a bottle.
Coconut oil : 100 ml, Dettol : 2 ml, and Carbolic acid: 3 ml (available from chemical shops)
Apply it on cold sores once or twice. This formula, evolved by the authors of this web site, has a 100% success rate, not only for cold sores but also for boils, minor itching at under arms, between the thighs, anus, mosquito bites, etc. You can keep this bottle for years.
Apply Witch Hazel on sores.
Press or rub an ice cube on the cold sore for a few minutes every ten minutes for an hour. This will lessen the size of the sore preventing the movement of the virus.
Moisten your index finger and press it on powdered common salt, and then onto the sores for 30 seconds. Do it twice a day for 2-3 days.
Take four acidophilus capsules three or four times a day with milk.
Rub aloe juice or aloe gel on cold sores.
Apply a cornstarch paste.
Lemon balm extract may reduce cold sore symptoms and speed up the healing.
Apply spirit of camphor on the sore.
Herbal Sage, Tea Tree Oil and the herbal sedative Violet have been used as treatments for cold sores. Make a tea by adding two or three Sage leaves and a small ginger root piece or ginger powder to a cup of boiling water and steep. Drink 2-3 cups a day.

Many different types of fever blisters can occur around a person's mouth, or on one's lips and face. The most common types are canker sores and colds sores caused by the herpes simplex virus type I (HSV-1). Other rarer forms of mouth sores are caused by tuberculosis, syphilis, Vincent's disease, Behcet's syndrome, leukemia, anemia, or drug allergies.
Canker sores and cold sores are the most common fever blisters. Canker sores are tiny, crater-like lesions inside of the mouth that can appear on or under the tongue or inside the cheeks, alone or in a group. Cankers have not been proven to have a viral origin, and they are not contagious, or a sign of any other disease. They are painful and irritating, but they do tend to go away by themselves in about a week. It is not clear what causes canker sores to appear. They seem to be stress-related for some people, but stress can also be a side effect of the sores. Heredity may play a role, and some women find that they recur at the same time each month during their menstrual cycle. Some people have claimed that food allergies instigate the sores, and others blame a lack of Vitamin C in the diet.
Cold sores caused by HSV-1 are different than canker sores in that they are very, very contagious. HSV-1 is the virus that affects the mouth and facial areas, although it can be transmitted to the genital area through oral-genital sex. The virus can be transmitted through direct contact with a lesion, through contact with fluid from a lesion, and through contact with the virus even when no symptoms are present in the infected person. There is no cure for HSV-1 (as there isn't for any virus), so treatment is prescribed to relieve pain, avoid infections, and prevent spreading of the virus.
Fever blisters can be treated with antiviral medications. Antiviral drugs taken by mouth can help to prevent cold sores in tropical locations where exposure to the sun can trigger an outbreak. Wind and other weather conditions also can trigger cold sores if your lips become too dry. It also helps to keep the affected area clean and to apply soothing lip balm if the lips are involved.

There are a few OTC products but ABREVA is the #1 pharmacist recommended and the only non-prescription cold sore medicine approved by the FDA to shorten healing time and duration of symptoms.

Fever blister or cold sores are caused by the herpes virus called simplex. Just put Zilactin on the infected area every day would limit the outbreak of the virus.

Yes, you can get fever blister. There is a chance also of getting genital herpes if you had oral sex.

Yes, you can get fever blister thru sex. If the person has fever blister or genital herpes, they could infect their sexual partner if they perform oral sex. This is a very common way to transmit this disease.
