I don't assume anything can be done with the ringing in my ear. I had the measles at a very young age and it ate away at my hearing. I figure it caused nerve damage. And this damage continues throughout my life. I now have over 95 % hearing loss and the ringing is much louder. I figure the ringing contributes to the hearing loss. If I could get rid of it, perhaps some of my hearing will return? I learned to live with it but just in case someone might have an idea for me, is there anything I might be able to do to at least reduce it or, wishful thinking.....get rid of it? hmmm

The ringing that you are hearing is a disease called tinnitus a latin word for ringing. The symtomps resulting to a range of underlying causes. Like ear infections, foreign onjects, wax in the ear, nose allergies and injury in loud noises. There are already medicines that can cure ringing in the ears you could search it thru the net.

Would it lead to deafness if you frequently hear ringing in your ear?

This stems from a condition that's deeper within the body. Often liver congestion is the cause.

Responding to black car...I think it would..in my case, it was the childhood measles. Left my ears with nerve damage. hearing increasingly gets worse, then so does ringing in the ear gets worse. In my case the ringing has gotten louder, not only that, I also hear tick sounds and machine like sounds, a sound like running water, or soft pounding noise. Sometimes these noises can be high pitched and actually cause discomfort. Then again, what ever I don't hear [without the hearing aid] might be sounds within my own body, pulsing, heartbeat, etc. Im quite confused at what it is Im hearing most of the times. I deal with this every single day.

For the longest time I was expressing to my girls and husband that the house was moving. They thought it was just my imagnation. I especially noticed it as I slept in my bed at night time. Im a light sleeper. And I do sleep without my hearing aid...yet, I was so sure something was happening in this old house as I slept during the night and at times during the quiet days I sit in my living room. After 10 years living in this house. They finally believe Im actually right.....lol....with hearing impairment there is and increase sensitivity of the other senses. In my case, it is the sixth sense if Im in a calm state of mind.

I only get ringing in the ear if I hear loud noises. When I tried to research on it and I found out that it can also lead to deafness.

[color=purple]I have ringing in my left ear 24/7 - a high pitched sound. I went to the doctor and he said that my ears are clear, no infection - there is no medicine that you can buy to cure it....he said that it COULD be a tiny tumor, very slow growing, that COULD be causing it....in which case, he wanted me to come back in a year to check again....however, it is most probably the result of age and it will be with me forever.omg

cquin,

don't jump to conclusions just yet. Ringing can be from anything. There are remedies at the healthfood store for this. Just ask someone to lead you to a product. I hear they work for some people. however, mine is permanant from measles in childhood. Nerve damage. don't believe everything the doctor says. that's why there is such a thing as 2nd opnion. also, you need to do your own research. I do that.

One example could be the side effects from medication, any medication. Another could be constant loud noise like from headphones, etc.

those ringing sounds are what makes it hard to hear. the louder they get or the amount of ringing that increases, this is what will keep you from hearing properly. It can get worse as we age. The different rings I hear are high pitch, roaring, clicking [less frequent], rumble.

Believe it or not, certain foods can irritate this. foods with MSG, HFCS and other chemical additives. Medication, big time....

You know, I might be going out on a limb here, but I heard that calcium deposits will also cause a "ringing in the ears". I am sure you are up for anything to get it to stop. I had ear infections (at least once a week for what seemed like endless months when I was a kid) and had tons of tinctures poured into my ears. I had very "foggy" hearing through my teen years, asking people, "What?" and "Come again?" all the time, as I wouldn't catch what they said the first time. I "grew out of it" I suppose, but my recent fascination with calcium and magnesium has lead me to believe that we also "just happened" to change out diet, as a family right around that time. Seriously though, my dad had quite a calcium issue with his body, to the point that his veins from his brain down his neck were collapsing and he was blacking out. He had had 5 neck surgeries and a ton of bone spurs and calcification in his neck area, causing there to be "no room" for his blood flow. He's switched off the calcium foods and supplements and is sticking to some sort of powdered magnesium (he mixes it with hot water) and he literally seems to be disolving his bone spurs, by x-ray proof. If your ringing is caused by calcium deposits, you have nothing to lose. This stuff it cheap, I think it's $30 a bottle and it lasts for months (he got his bottle in Feb and he's still not done with it!). Give it a go! Please post back to let us know if this helped. smile
