Hi, my father is going to undergo angioplasty tomorrow morning. What exactly happens in that procedure and are there any considerations that we need to take note after the angioplasty? I hope everything goes well with my father tomorrow. Thanks.

Angioplasty is a procedure done for patients with atherosclerosis or deposition of fat in the blood vessels. This is a mechanical procedure of widening the blood vessel through a deflated balloon inserted in the narrowed part. Once it reaches the narrowed part, the balloon is inflated so as to push the fat deposits and widen the blood vessel opening.

I'll pray for your father, Jenna. smile

Jenna I'll also pray for you father's succesful operation and speedy recovery. My question is this type of disease that has fats on the blood vessel can it be infected on any age brackets?

The procedure does not open the arteries nor is it associated with increased survival. It is associated with a decrease in angina (chest pain) in patients with heart disease.
