I've been wearing glasses on and off for the past years to treat my astigmatism. But somehow, it hasnt lessened, only increased. Any other ways to cure this?

The easiest way to correct astigmatism is through using corrective glasses or contact lenses designed for your astigmatism. These lenses involve correction for either nearsightedness or farsightedness, plus astigmatism. However, if your astigmatism were not corrected by these measures and has gotten severe, you may want to consider undergoing LASIK surgery. This will completely resolve your astigmatism.

Another method for correcting astigmatism is by changing the shape of the cornea through refractive or laser eye surgery. While there is more than one type of refractive surgery, specific treatments are recommended on an individual basis.

Depending on the circumstances, laser surgery to correct refractive errors of the cornea may also be an option. For example, PRK (photorefractive keratectomy) is a laser surgery used to reduce or correct certain types of nearsightedness and astigmatism. As with all types of surgery, PRK has risks and benefits. Ask your doctor for details.

Yes me too I have astigmatism. My optometrist suggested that everytime i feel diziny or headache always wear my glasses. I think you should consult a optemetrist to check if you need to increase the grade of the lenses.

Yes, it can cause astigmatism. Watching TV and working in front of the computer are the number 1 cause of astigmatism. The symptoms are headache, dizziness and nausea.

I have already asked an optometrist about this and verified to me that watching too close to the TV or working and using the computer can trigger astigmatism in our eyes.

Not necessarily. I also have astigmatism, the DOCTOR checked just last December. I asked him for prescription so I can have corrective glasses made for me. He said I don't need the glasses, because my astigmatism's not too bad.

Yes, this is a symptom of astigmatism. Frequent eyestrain or ache around the eye could be a symptom of astigmatism. You can prevent it by resting your eyes for at least 10-15 minutes by closing them before you wash your face and take a bath.

Astigmatism may be corrected with eyeglasses, contact lenses, or refractive surgery. Various considerations involving ocular health, refractive status, and lifestyle frequently determine whether one option may be better than another. In those with keratoconus, rigid gas permeable contact lenses often enable patients to achieve better visual acuities than eyeglasses. If the astigmatism is caused by a problem such as deformation of the eyeball due to a chalazion, treating the underlying cause will resolve the astigmatism. Should the person suffer from severe astigmatism, they will be advised to wear hard rigid gas permeable lenses rather than the more comfortable soft lenses. wink

Astigmatism may also be congenital. Check if your parents or grandparents have this, surely you will get the illness.

Of all the research that I have done to find the cause of astigmatism, it has been reported unknown.
The precise cause of astigmatism is unknown. It is often present at birth and worsens with time. It may coexist with nearsightedness or farsightedness. Sometimes it may occur after an injury or eye surgery such as cataract removal.

I was diagnosed with astigmatism last year.

This is very true. A family history of eye disease or disorders, such as glaucoma, increases your chances of developing astigmatism.

I’m sorry to tell but astigmatism cannot be prevented. This is a lifelong condition and it may worsen slowly when we get old.

That’s what my optometrist told me. There is no cure for astigmatism and even a kid of 7 years old can get astigmatism.
