Weightloss with diabetes

Hi there everyone!!

Please forgive me if my forum edicacy is not up to par. This is my first post ever! I am so far left behind. Thank you all who are helping others like me! This is a great thing, that when we need help, we can lean on each other. Thanks so much!!! Well, knowing me, my biggest health issue is my diabetes. I am trying to loose weight, yet again!!! I have gained back20 lbs that I had lost. With a recent change in my beliefs, and struggling with stress. I am a home bound mom with 1 child and 6 dogs. I am married, and our life style is very Topsy turvy. We eat very late since my husband doesn't get home until 9:00 - 10:00 pm, and we stay up until 1:00 or 2:00 am. So my day is not the typical am, noon, and night. I have tried the low carb diet to help with my diabetes and loose weigh. It did help, I lost 56 lbs!!!! But now I am gaining it back after two years, it is a very hard diet (lifestyle) to stick to. I have started walking in the afternoons with some neighbors Yeah!!!! So now I must chug on to try and accomplish getting rid of the diabetes. I need to loose about 70 lbs. I would love it if I could also get into a much smaller size too!!!!!!

Hey thanks again in advance to all of you with your helpful suggestions and questions with answers!!!! I really appreciate the fact that some of you have tried some of the hype of the advertisement world and give your results!!!! So please let me know of those since I am one of the "income challenged" and to waste money on some of these items is just another fight my husband and I can avoid!!!!

Hey there Kellopgirl

I have a question for you? Do you have to eat dinner at the same time as your husband? Have you thought about having your dinner earlier and having a snack instead while your husband has dinner? When I was on midnights I had to change my eating habbits. When my husband was having dinner I was having breakfast. We were still eating together and spending time together just different meals. It just may be a matter of adjusting your eating schedule. I hope this helps!

Hi Pinkie,

Thank you for the idea. Yes I did eat earlier for a while, but it was very hard to make two dinners. When I could just heat up when he came home, he started complaining cause he felt as though he was eating left overs (which he hates!!!) Maybe I will try and do the cereal thing or something much lighter thought. That might work. Thanks again for the idea!!!

How long are you awake? In other words, what time do you wake up in the AM?

I assume your husband's medical status is quite different from yours. What does your husband's weight look like? Does he offer support in the weight loss category?

What, if any, medications do you take? Oral hypoglcemic (blood-sugar-lowering) agents like metformin or insulin, etc....


Many times diets offer restrictive behaviors - but allow me to let you in on a little secret...ALL diets work; the question is finding the right one, which low-carb just may not be it for you. I usually have my clients/patients switch their diets every 12 weeks (not kidding) as this aids in their motivational plights, but also has scientific backing.

I am curious to the answers to the above questions and we will move forward from there...

Well, my husband is in good health. And oh yes, he can loose his weight just by stop drinking cokes (which he did and lost 30 lbs) I haven't had real sugar in 7 years, exercise, diet and everything there is and still carry 70 lbs or more over. Now, since my son is on summer vacation, and my husband was able to change his schedule for an hour earlier this past week, I don't get up until around 9:30 and make my husband's breakfast and lunch. I will eat something simple for breakfast then, take my metformin 1000mg 2x daily, and now just added glipizide 2 x daily. This will be my third week with the added glipizide. I had low sugar last night and again this afternoon. I will normally hit the bed around 12:00 am, if I haven't already fallen asleep on the couch watching tv with hubby. But I when I do, I get up and clean the kitchen then hit the bed. I have begun to walk (YEAH!) on the weekdays for 30 minutes or more with some neighbors. But when they can do it, I have to make it short to get here when hubby comes home. Still trying to work the kinks out, but at least I am done it so far!!! It sure is much nicer when you have someone to talk to when you walk. Hubby walks on his job and is totally tired when he comes home, so no hope for his companionship in that! But at least I have the will power. He does see I try, and there are times... I would like to loose weight not only to get into smaller jeans, and not be embarrassed when we go to places like six flags and I can barley fit in the seats, but also to get off the meds. I have lost around 40 lbs since I became a diabetic, and had gotten off the advanta and glipizide, but I am gaining some weight back and now....going back on the pills. So I know if I can get the weight off and keep it off, I will be off pills completely, hummmm one day!!!
