I don't think it will offer any benefit, cool tap water can help, but only in the first minute after you're burned, over-the-counter antibiotic burn ointment works best.

I've tried toothpaste, but it only offers temporary relief, if an ointment isn't available immediately

Never, never, ever put butter on a burn. It creates more heat. Put ice on it right away.

I don't know about the toothpaste, but I still would go with ice.

The reason why butter has become a popular remedy is because it makes the pain go away by burning the nerve endings. However, what you don't know is that they make the burns much worse.

Same goes with baby oil (or any oil for that matter).

Hi Sunnyshine,

Ice isn't recommended either. Use cool tap water instead.

Using toothpaste for burns is a no-no. It will just dry the burn and split the skin. Use cool water instead.

Use some fresh aloe Vera leaves instead of butter or toothpaste and put it on the burnt area.Once the wound starts healing, break a capsule of vitamin E and pour the liquid on it. This will prevent scarring.

Yes aloe vera leaves is a good source of treament for burns. Not only healing the burned skin and also cools it down. Try also using lavender oil which is a natural pain reliever.

I have tried using butter and it only gets my lips swollen. I have learned my lesson there and I will try toothpaste when I get a burn on my lips.

I haven’t tried both of these when I got burned. I always put creams and it only lasted for 2 days and then it’s gone.
