Is it true that one should not drink while or before getting a tattoo, because it thins blood? Is there any truth in that?

I have not found any scientific data for that but only by experience that alcohol and painkillers can affect your blood, thinning it out and making it bleed more. It may not happen all the time, but the excess blood does dilutes the ink. It makes it more difficult for the artist to work. If you want good work, do it sober.

Alcohol will thin out your blood and cause you to bleed more. Depends on how much you drank and how long it takes the alcohol to get throughout your system. Excess bleeding can make it much harder to work because the blood will push out the ink... or it can mix in while you're trying to put the ink in, thinning out the ink and basically 'watering it down'... which makes it more transparent.

Also very clearly, drunk people often don't sit well. It's difficult enough to tattoo someone... then add alcohol. You move, can't stay in one position because you forget, talk with your hands, can't or won't listen, jump, twist, twitch and this whole time the artist is working on you. It's a big health risk. Just not worth it IMO.

Once you got yourself a tattoo make sure do not drink beer. Beer has yeast that will increase the infection on your skin when you do yourself a tattoo.

I don’t have any idea that alcohol can affect a tattoo. Thanks black, I will keep that in mind.

If you drink too much alcohol, can you be prone to low platelet count?

Sure, it does. Alcohol is a blood thinner and once the blood becomes thin, it looses some of it's nutrients and the person will have low platelet count.

Beer!? It has alcohol and it’s not good in enriching the blood. Take vitamin B and potassium supplement to give the blood more health.

Just to be safe don’t drink alcohol nor get a tattoo. These can only give some problems in the long run.
