Any suggestions for alternates?

Faced with increasing financial pressures, schools are tempted to make deals with the junk-food devil. However, the success of some schools should help others resist this temptation. In many places, schools are substituting healthier choices. It shows changes are possible to make and gives power to parents and others concerned about kids, to improve the quality of food provided by local schools.

Junk food tastes good to many kids. But fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and healthy dairy products can become a scrumptious preference for kids. But parents can also send their kids to school with great lunches right now. Tasty, healthy foods can be a huge improvement over the artificial, chemical laden, highly processed, high sugar, or high fat foods so many children eat at lunch. Besides making children's lives better now, these food choices can be used to teach children about nutrition, and to build delicious, healthy habits for a lifetime.

Educate the kids about the dangers of junk food. But allow them to eat junk food at least once a week so they will not feel deprived.

You can also petition the school to lessen, if not remove, junk food and offer healthier and yummier choices

Heya, nitesky!

First, your school must have hired a good cook, but normally, cafeterias do not have good food in the menu. When I was in school, the cafeteria served decent food, but not delicious food. Therefore, the kids will always divert to junk food. It's yummier and more exciting.

Second point. Educate kids? "Hey baby, it's bad for you don't eat it." evil no no no
They can say yes and you get pleased, but you don't keep an eye on them 100% of the time. So???

If the school is run by the government, chances are that they supply healthy foods and they already eliminated the food rich in fats. The cafeteria in the school now serves more fruit and veggies rather than hamburger, pasta and pizza.

The government must act on this. Many children are now considered obese because of junk food. Schools should be guided of strict diet on what they are serving.

In some canteens they do not serve junk food on lunch or snacks. They put more vegetables and fruits in their menus so that they could avoid their students to become obese.

I think all schools must follow this memorandum. They need to sell more fruits and veggies on their menu and scratch off those oily and fatty foods.
