My dog is pregnant with her first litter of pups(it was not planned and she will be neutered after!). I am wondering if I have to be there for the birth of the pups? I am a bit paranoid that they may not survive or she might eat them or something! Is it best that I am there

TIA.

I don't think she will eat her puppies or the puppies will die at birth but instead worrying about the puppies i think you should worry about your dog. Take her to the vet and ask advice. It's nice to be present when she gives birth but only a vet knows what to do. You may research on how to assist her and only call the vet if she is having a hard time but in my case, i really can't do it, i just watch while the vet took care of everything.

As Pinkblush says it would be worth getting advice from your veterinarian. Are you worried about assisting the birth if she goes into labor during the night for example?

For me its better to have your dog check to your vet for birth of the puppies. Because theses dogs once they gave birth they actually eat ther babies. So its better to confine them in your vets clinic for giving birth.

My dog has a scar when he was born. Will this be removed when he grows old?

Macavoy is right. For puppies that has some birth defects rush them quickly to a nearest vet clinic in your area.

Added info:

Maybe your puppy got that when their mother is giving birth. They can get scars from playing with one another or when they run into an area and the slip and their skin scratches on the floor or the wall.

Yeah what kind of birth defect do they have? Maybe it’s just color of the skin.

Like what James said, scars. Most animals have colored spot on their skin and that signifies the birthmark according to veterinarians.
