Is it advisable to shave a dog in summer? Does it help keep it cooler?

I am against shaving your pet for the summer months because dogs don't sweat to cool themselves the way people do, so they don't need exposed skin to stay cool.

Well it will only do look good in your dog in the appearance. But in summertime try to give them more water and it is also good if you put ice on it.

When I trimmed my lab's hair this summer, he played more and didn't pant as much. He seemed so much happier. I live in Texas and it got to 103 outside.

Well what I have read chnage my mind and it is not advisable for dogs to be shaven during the summer. It will expose your dogs to sunlight, insect bites and other skin diseases. Because its furs are the protection to those complications and is an insulation thru heat and coldness.

Yes that is truly correct. The furs of the dogs acts as their shield to weather conditon like summer and winter time. One advise durin summer seems most of the pets are dealing with heat stroke just dont let them dehydrated. Put ice on their water so that it cools there body.

Yes, trimming your dog’s hair during summer is good for your pet. It could give them better ventilation and keep them from getting a heat stroke.

In my opinion, you should shave your dog's hair twice a year. You can shave it on spring and summer.

I will consider that joy, thanks for your opinion. I’m now planning to go to the grooming shop and have my pet get a trim.

It really depends on your dog’s hair. Each breed of dog has its own different hair. Some dogs have naturally long and full hair and some don’t. If your dog has long full hair, I think you should trim or shave 4 times a year.

I bring them to the grooming shop at least twice a year for their hair job. Usually, I give them a trim before summer and after winter.

How much would it cost for a complete groom for your dog?

A complete makeover of your dog including shaving could cost from $80 - $100. This is expensive and it will benefit you and your dog.

Yes, that's expensive. I better take care of my dog rather than taking them to a dog grooming shop. Soap, shampoo and grooming kit can only cost around $30.
