CureYourBody.com is excited to announce the launch of
its new forums. The next several months will be critical to setting up the
forums the way you want them to be. So
if you feel we should add more categories or sub forums, please let us know.
We'll add sub forums on our own as well, if we feel a
large number of posts are being made on a specific topic. For example, "Colon Cleansing" was added as a sub forum to the Gastroenterology forum since there seems
to be a lot of posts for that specific subject.
I'm taking a multi-vit B supplement in an attempt to try and regain some control of my life. What's the right kind of dosage for each B vitamin - for example B6 and B12?
All B vitamins are NOT created equal and many supplement companies, in attempts to cut costs and meet certain product margins will use inactive forms of this particular water-soluble complex (i.e. - B vits).
Lets use Vitamin B12 for example. The normal form you might find in a complex or multi-vitamin is known as cyanocobalamin which suffers from a miserable absorption rate of about 4-6% on its best day. The activated form of B12 is known as methylcobalamin and has a LOT better absorption rate (about 68%) - still not perfect, but nothing really is and if anyone tries to convince you of the contrary - step far, far away from that source of information.
So, lets turn to your scenario and see how this translates...
When you say you want to "regain some control of your life," what is it that you feel exactly has been "lost?"
A direct interpretation only becomes clear with a bit of clarification explicitly.
They say it is best to take all the B's togehter, like a proper b complex rather than separate b's on their own. Is this true? Or just heresay as I take it with a milti vitamin.
All kinds of things are going on with my health right now, and although I have a neuro trying to figure out cause, he's not addressing symptoms. Research that I've done points towards some vitamin B deficiency and so I thought I'd try and address that. I'm not sure what the % are - I'll check on the packaging and post tomorrow. Thanks.

This depends on what you are tryinig to accomplish with your dose, but some do work synergistically (together).
I will give you a prime example:
Lowering of Homocysteine (a marker of virtually every disease known to man) is actually aided by co-ingestion of Vitamins B6, B12, and Folic Acid moreso likely than each one alone - though ingestion is to only ensure that there aren't deficiencies at any one time.
Now, blood sugar lowering on the other hand can be aided solely by increasing your level of thiamine (alone or with others).
Protein assimilation requires adequate B12 stores at all times, etc...
B vitamins are likely the vitamin where there is NO upper limit with a few notable exceptions as far as marks of toxicity.

Specifically, it’s vitamin B12. This vitamin helps maintain healthy nerve cells and red blood cells. If you’re thinking of supplements for the blood, this vitamin will be a good thing.
All vitamin B family is helpful in nourishing the health of the blood. We must also eat veggies and fruits because they have natural vitamins that are also good for the blood and other organs of our body.
It’s not a supplement to prevent hypertension. The main benefits of Vitamin B is giving energy to our body and strengthening our immune system.
Thanks for the info Joe. My mother, who has hypertension, wants to get information about vitamin and some of her friends told her it’s good for hypertension but it’s not.
