I am at a loss to understand which is more important.

I have a bit of weight to lose. Now what I want to know is how do I find out how much. Do I just lose enough to bring me back to what I was all my life? or do I check my BMI in which case I might have to gain some more weight.

I am confused.

Have you tried the Ideal Body Weight Calculator? You can search online, there are a lot of websites to choose that will calculate for free. You can also enroll on finding your ideal weight plan online. I am also a little bit overweight after giving birth but i don't worry, it is important, that regardless, if your weight is ideal or not, that you feel good about yourself and work on being healthy instead.

BMI is a better standard than what you think an ideal weight should be for yourself.

BMI = inaccurate (atleast in my book)....

All it does is take age (in some calculators), height, and weight to determine BMI.....does not account for the athletic build.....My Stats are as follows: 5'9" 210lb.....according to the BMI, I score a 31 which = OBESE.....I can tell you that I am not obese

I agree with g_lee, I think it is much better to measure by weight as IMO the BMI measurement can be very inaccurate.

I think you have to focus on your BMI because it balances the weight on the height of a person. When losing weight, it’s better to monitor your BMI to get a good proportionate body.

Yes, jim I agree with you. We must look at the BMI chart, not our weight. It gives the ratio of your body fat to your body size.
