Hi, you should do at least 30 minutes walking a day for at least 5 days. Check with your doc before you start a routine just to make sure it is okay for you. Set a goal such as walking 10 minutes every day to start off with, and then increase over the weeks. I always like to walk with a partner and/or my dog to keep me motivated and to stop me getting bored.

Please observe the following walking tips for better health.

Walking Tips:
Start walking slowly. At first walk only as fast as you can
Wear properly fitted shoes
Wear walking shoes and comfortable, protective clothing
Walk briskly. You will soon gain the stride and rhythm natural for your height and weight.
Don’t walk in extremely hot or cold weather
Avoid walking immediately after meals

Good Luck.

I agree that a walking partner makes all the difference. It keeps you motivated and stops you from giving up.

I walk for about 30 minutes everyday. I even try to walk a little bit more by getting off the bus a few stops early or taking the stairs instead of the elevator. I also like to walk to music and try and walk to the rhythm.

To get into a set routine make sure you do your walking at the same time everyday. Walking with a friend, partner or pet can help to keep you motivated and relieve boredom.

Go for a walk early in the morning. That is the best time for me. You can avoid all the vehicle pollution if you do that, and you are bright and fresh in the morning.

I think you should walk on even ground sometimes and sometimes on rough terrain. Both will be good exercise. But make sure you wear comfortable shoes.

Like in any other sports you have to pace yourself. In walking as well you must do pacing. Meaning once you walk try to walk faster for 10 minutes and walk slower for 5 minutes and do it again. Everyday try to walk with weights with you lets say a bottle water. It keeps you tone the muscle in your upper body and also you can drinks once your thirsty.
