Hello, here in Qatar, on the Radio they announced as news that a research shows that taking pill supplements could actually 'kill' rather than extend the life of someone. I was shocked to hear that, since I take a multi-vitamin supplement almost everyday. Any light on the topic?

I would suggest to ask Dr. Hauser about this, but I also heard that taking pills is not the 'natural' way of acquiring essential nutrients and that the 'right way' would be through a nutritious healthy diet.

Antioxidant supplements won't kill you under normal circumstances, that is when you take them at correct dosage along with healthy diet and exercise. The latest news coverage, is a research study that only applies to synthetic supplements produced by pharmaceutical companies not natural sources of vitamins and minerals or antioxidants source from plants.

Can you be more specific about what you heard? What specific supplements were they talking about?

May be you've not heard the news completely. Pill could be anything. Viagra is a pill, it is dangerous if it is taken without proper medical prescription. Pill does not necessarily mean a supplement. Next time, be attentive while listening to such news. Taking multivitamins is not dangerous. I'm taking multivitamins for the last several years. There is no problem as such.

All current MultiVitamins on the market leave much to be desired actually.

Most formulators in the dietary supplement industry have no degrees or even an inkling of nutritional biochemistry prowess. I do think that the original poster should be much more explicit in their report, however.

Are there any cases that food supplements really kill?

They could be fatal if it’s overdosed. Most of the supplements like for building muscles affect the function of the heart. It could lead to heart problems in the long run.

I think too much of something is bad for us. What kind of nutrients, if we take it too much, can harm us?
