CureYourBody.com is excited to announce the launch of
its new forums. The next several months will be critical to setting up the
forums the way you want them to be. So
if you feel we should add more categories or sub forums, please let us know.
We'll add sub forums on our own as well, if we feel a
large number of posts are being made on a specific topic. For example, "Colon Cleansing" was added as a sub forum to the Gastroenterology forum since there seems
to be a lot of posts for that specific subject.
I don't think so! Strong and 'muscular' girls don't look attractive at all. This is at least from an aesthetics prospective.
That's your opinion. I think the majority of men like a fit and toned girl, and not a skinny girl with straight arms and nor curves or muscle tone.
I will agree that most men don't want a girl with 15 inch amrs with a big vein going down her bicep, but I doubt the majority of women have enough dedication to ever get like that, even if they wanted to.
You can't get massive unless you're one of the very, very few with the genetic disposition, an even then it takes hours of training and dietary supplements. Muscle burns more calories than fat, and so you are more likely to keep weight off, and certain exercises (such as bench presses and push-ups) can actually make you look curvier up top. Not a bad thing!
This is entirely subjective, and is up to personal opinions/feelings. If it's something that interests you, and you decide it's for you, then go for it. Who cares what anyone else thinks, it's your body.
I agree with gumbo - "strong" doesn't necessarily mean "bulky". The idea that women shouldn't lift weights (heavy or otherwise) is completely outdated. So is the "light reps really fast" myth. If you aren't lifting weights that are heavy enough to fatigue you in 10-12 reps, you aren't lifting enough to do you much good. Plus, weightlifting (along with aerobic exercise) helps you to maintain bone density, which for a woman is very important; as we are more prone to osteoporosis.
I think it is important for even women to wrk on their muscles to tone the body. I do a Flat Barbell Bench Press for my chest so that my breasts look firmer.
I would sure prefer a lean buff body compared to a fat flabby or even a skinny bony look.
I think working with weights is good for women as well. No reason to avoid resistance training just because you are a girl. What you don't realize is that it helps you get stronger.
Well, I begin to discuss this in the BodyPRIME section of this subforum and it is covered in much more depth in the actual book, but the long and short is as follows:
[1] If it is your desire to burn fat more efficiently throughout life...then YES.
[2] If it is your desire to ward off disease states like diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure, and cholesterol issues...then YES.
[3] If it is your desire to appeal to most men (contrary to what you may think) unless they themselves simply are nervous because they are not conscious of body composition...then YES.
[4] If it is your desire to be able to take on life's challenges more effectively (not being subject to requiring the aid of others in physical tasks, etc...)...then YES.
There is a common theme here. I think what ruins the opinion of many is that they think the "bodybuilder" woman is what will effectively happen if they submit to weight training and quite the opposite is true of normal physiology because you simply don't have the same level of male hormones circulating through you at any one time.
Effectively, that is what the absence of testicles (a testosterone-producing factory) will do for you - even if "genetically-inclined" as referenced above, it still won't happen without the outside aid of generalized hormone use.
Your predominate source of androgenic (testosterone) production happens to be through the adrenal gland which concentrates them at a lot smaller rate. This is perhaps only not the case with the more masculine, male sounding females and that too is in such small concentration that it is considered "normal" anyway for women and highly "abnormal" if males were to experience the same levels.
However having tone hard muscles and the broad shoulders and back is pretty much unanimously attractive. That why women also tends to have good body so that chey could notice and look attractive to men.
If you watched the olympics and saw the female weightlifters then you will see that they do not look bulky. They have muscle all right but they look toned and lean. Not bulky. they have pretty amazing bodies.
Just like wht Dr. Houser said, women are not likely to develop bulk because we lack the male hormone to bulk up that easily. It's actually great that we cn have weight training and become lean and burn more fat without the bulk.
