Hello Everyone, this is my first post in this forum.
For the past few days I've started to feel 'stabbed' in my chest area. The right-hand side lung, I think. I've not eaten anything strange these days, nor I did any out of ordinary. Any advice before I take time off to go to the local doctor?

Hello, pain in that area is certainly something worth a visit to the doctor. But tell, me if you press on the place it pains you, does the pain increase? If so it's something related to your muscles, and is not as worrying as if it was from inside, the cage area.

I'm afraid it's from within the bones (the cage) because when I press on the part the pain doesn't increase. Indeed I 'feel' it's inside. I'll see a doctor tomorrow evening.

I checked your profile and I see you live in Qatar, a hot country in the Middle East. I'm not sure, but I think you have a 'asma' or allergy, and the 45 degrees outside cause this pain. Did you have such pain before?

I think Sarmila is right. In summer it becomes 'harder' to absorb oxygen by the lungs, and breathing becomes a bit difficult. Some people, especially if not native to that environment, will find it hard to cope with the 'new' weather and will have breathing difficulties. However as the weather cools down, you should return to normal, and no longer feel stabbed! Do check with your doctor.

You definitely want to see the Dr. - I had chest pain in Feb, and ignored it until it got really bad; it wound up being a pulmonary embolism (blood clot obstructing blood flow to the lung) and I wound up in the hospital for a full week - on oxygen. My doc told me that if I hadn't come in, I could easily have died; so my mantra is "don't screw around when it comes to chest pain". On that note, good luck, and I hope it's nothing! : )

Never ignore chest pain. Get to your doctor ASAP, to rule out anything serious. Good luck.

For your peace of mind consult with a cardiologist. When i experienced severe chest pain before, i thought i am going to have a heart attack, but my test results shows normal heart condition, so the doctor thinks, it's just anxiety attack. I was advised to avoid people and situations that causes psychological and emotional suffering. I moved to a new house and it's been 2 years, i have not experience chest pain again. Get well.

Thank you guys, I've been to the doctor and he said exactly what Sarmila said. He gave me a pill and a spray to take daily. He advised to stay in ventilated rooms, and he said I should feel better taking the medicine. He also said that as I grow up (I'm only 17 now) I'll have less of this allergy.

Since, you say that you are only 17 years of age, you should not get this type of pain in the chest. By the way, are you getting pain on the right side or left side of the chest. If it is on the left side, you should consult a specialist doctor. If the pain is on the right side, it is not that serious. Take care.

It's on the right hand-side. Why do you say I should not get this allergy/ type of pain? Are you suggesting that my local doctor is incompetent and that I should visit another doctor? You are scaring me!

Ramesh - if you are going to take the word of a random forum poster over the work of a licensed physician, you are insane! Besides - chest pain (right- or left-sided) is a dangerous symptom - your heart isn't the only thing in your chest that you need to have functioning properly to live.

The cardiologyst said i have stable angina. The pain is predictable and present only during exertion or extreme emotional distress, disappearing with rest. Should i worry? The doctor said, I will be fine and i just need lifestyle change. I don't think i can avoid stress, problems and i can't help but worry over little things.

Stress that continues without relief can lead to a condition called distress, a negative stress reaction. Distress can lead to physical symptoms including headaches, upset stomach, elevated blood pressure, chest pain, and problems sleeping. Research suggests that stress also can bring on or worsen certain symptoms or diseases.

People can learn to manage stress. Start with these tips:

Keep a positive attitude.
Accept that there are events that you cannot control.
Be assertive instead of aggressive. "Assert" your feelings, opinions, or beliefs instead of becoming angry, defensive, or passive.
Learn and practice relaxation techniques.
Exercise regularly. Your body can fight stress better when it is fit.
Eat healthy, well-balanced meals.
Get enough rest and sleep. Your body needs time to recover from stressful events.
Don't rely on alcohol or drugs to reduce stress.
Seek out social support.
Learn to manage your time more effectively.

Stable angina is chest pain that has a typical pattern. It happens when your heart is working harder and needs more oxygen, such as during exercise. The pain goes away when you rest. To improve your heart health:

Don't smoke, and avoid secondhand smoke. Quitting smoking can quickly reduce the risk of another heart attack or death.
Eat a heart-healthy diet that includes plenty of fish, fruits, vegetables, beans, high-fiber grains and breads, and olive oil.
Get regular exercise on most, preferably all, days of the week. Your doctor can suggest a safe level of exercise for you.
Control your cholesterol and blood pressure.
If you have diabetes, keep your blood sugar as close to normal as possible.
Lower your stress level. Stress can damage your heart.
Take a daily aspirin if your doctor advises it.
Get a flu shot every year.

It really depends which side of your chest. The heart is located on the left side of the chest. If you are feeling it on that side, maybe it could be a sign of heart problem.

I agree with you black. Sometimes if your chest is in pain it doesn’t mean you have heart attack etc. Go to a cardiologist so that they could examine your condition.

If a person feels a pain on the left side of the chest there’s an 80% chance of heart attacks. Be sure to see a doctor if you have chest pain on your left side.

I know that frequent chest pain is also one of the symptoms of heart condition. We really need to see a doctor if we always have pains on the chest.
