Past Life Regression Therapy works on the philosophy that our present moment is a sum total of experiences of the past and if all the negativism of the past can be buried, the present will be free from stress and pain.

Try reading books by Dr. Brian L. Weiss -
1)Many lives, Many masters
2)Through Time into Healing
3)Same Soul, Many Bodies
Really interesting reading, though I'm not sure if I really believe in it. It does raise a few pertinent questions.

ursulamajor, I understand where you are coming from. PLR uses hypnosis, which is technically considered as Complementary and Alternative Medicine. Second, whether the past lives that they perceive is real or not, still remains a question.

Although I have a few knowledge about this, let me tell you what I know about.
Past Life Regression Therapy may be more than what you actually expect of it. You will not only see past lives, but you may also see life that you haven't experienced in the past but a story that you need to deal with iin your present life.
Your counselor should ask you if there are moments in our life that you want to avoid. If there is something about your life that makes you very anxious, let your counselor know.
During the therapy, remember that you are in control. If you feel that you are losing control, open your eyes and sit up.

What I know about this, I only learned from books and movies. And from what I've seen, it's both cool and scary. I guess if you're interested in trying this out, you should put a lot of careful research into it.
Has anyone here tried it before?

I read that it can actually help cure some illnesses and diseases. However, you will have to look for someone who has the experience in doing this – imagine how scary it will be if your therapist isn’t qualified? What if you’ll forever get stuck in your past???!!!

Do you watch Oprah? There was an episode last December where they discussed this. There’s a man who has a rocky relationship with his sister. After the therapy, he found out the reason why. Long story short, they are both living in harmony now.

"I know someone who actually does past life regression therapy. It’s a guided meditation.
According to her, she only does it for people who are in hopeless condition (for example, someone is going to commit suicidal), and it shouldn’t be done just out of curiousity. When you do the session, that part of the past is re-lived, including that of hardships and death."

@ princess - Maybe it does. Some of these diseases results from karma, so it might be that the past incarnation that is distressing the present illness.

@lisa zee - There can be slighter forms of therapy that can help overcome childhood trauma. Consider regression, but not past life regression.

Thanks. Actually, here's my story:
I'm worried about my niece, who experiences anxiety attacks (she hyperventilates) when she remembers her fear of spiders (her brother used to scare her when they were younger). She's seeing a therapist. My sister (her mother) talked to the doctor and said that this isn't an isolated case - other people do have anxiety attacks resulting from childhood fears.
